The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has achieved its sustainability target for the 2025 subscription year under the Subscribe to Open (S2O) publishing model, enabling open access publication of articles in its six S2O journals. This accomplishment underscores ASM's dedication to enhancing global accessibility, fostering collaboration, and accelerating innovation in microbial sciences. The S2O model eliminates financial barriers by distributing costs among authors, institutions, and funders, ensuring that critical microbiology research is freely available to scientists and stakeholders worldwide.
